What would you call someone who followed an attractive woman as she purchased underwear? In my book, that’s a pervert, but apparently it’s a Daily Mail reporter.
According to the reporter, who is apparently too ashamed to give his/her name on the byline, ‘The Liberal Democrat leader’s Spanish-born spouse spent an hour-and-a-half in the famous Rigby & Peller shop’. Or is the story just one of the Mail trying to make the most of a paparazzi photo? An almost identical photo by the Tillen & Dove agency was carried on the News of the World web site yesterday. According to the Mail, Miriam spent 1&1/2 hours in the shop; the News of the World increased that to 2 full hours.
So not only are the right-wing tabloids trying to push the image of Nick as some posh bloke, they are now paying paparazzi to pursue his wife in order to thrust the same image onto her. Do they really think people care where Nick Clegg’s wife buys her bras? Or is the real problem that a sizable proportion of the tabloids don’t like the thought of an independent woman, with her own career and earning her own money. Look out guys, your misogyny is slipping out again. Maybe you need a decent support garment?
