So the Roman Catholic Bishop of Motherwell has criticised David Cameron for failing to act quickly to scrap the part of the 1701 Act of Settlement which prevents Catholics from taking the throne or being part of the Royal Family.
Joseph Devine said that this was a ‘scandalous’ law that discriminated against one group of people.
I think this form of discrimination is well past its sell-by date. But I don’t think the Roman Catholic church is in a very strong position to argue on these matters. But I’m willing to offer a deal. I’m happy for a Roman Catholic to be the head of my church and state if he’s happy for a woman to be head of his church. Deal, Bishop Devine?
