He loves me, he loves me not …

So Dave can’t decide if he wants to reward marriage or not. Sounds like something he should have thought about more carefully before making romantic overtures to the LibDems!

Seriously though, what’s so wonderful about marriage? Well speaking as someone who has been happily married for the past 16 years and who sees every sign of this continuing, I love being married. But it’s not for everyone. Is it possible to be not married and happy – of course. Is it possible to be married and dreadfully unhappy? We see the evidence for that around us every day.

But what about the children, I hear you say? As Nick Clegg pointed out this morning, children do best in a stable and happy family. The presence or otherwise of a wedding certificate is unnecessary.

And finally, what about same-sex partnerships? Will these get the same recognition as heterosexual marriages? What a good test as to whether the Conservative Party is thinking of entering the 21st century any time soon.

Data loss

This blog suffered a catastrophic loss of data at the end of 2009. I am restoring as many posts as possible as time allow, but comments are missing.

Why I am a Liberal Democrat

The Liberal Democrats exist to build and safeguard a fair, free and open society, in which we seek to balance the fundamental values of liberty, equality and community, and in which no-one shall be enslaved by poverty, ignorance or conformity.
