I like to think I’m a little more of an environmentalist and Eurosceptic than the average LibDem. I’m opposed to the third runway at Heathrow and have my own little blade of grass at the proposed site.
However I was astonished at the comments of Green leader Caroline Lucas MEP who claimed that flying abroad on holiday was the equivalent of stabbing someone in the street. Asked if flying is as bad as knifing someone, the Euro MP said: ‘Yes. People are dying from climate change. It’s incredibly irresponsible.’ You can hear her comments here (at about 14 minutes into the programme).
Just as mad though were the comments of UKIP, who issued a press release saying that the Green politician had shown ‘fascist tendencies’.

Funny that. Last time I saw her on the telly (on the South East Sunday political slot) she was defending the fact that she had been flown out to Gaza by the EU!

Maybe she saved two people from being stabbed in Gaza, making up for the one person she murdered in cold blood by taking the flight.

The British Greens have managed to con people in previous Euro-elections that they are nice and cuddly and good for our dear environment, whereas actually they have distinctly totalitarian tendencies and would like to see the world economy go backwards (very useful for people in the developing wrld, in particular). They are even (unlike their continental counterparts) anti-European. So just how will be solve climate change by being little Englanders, Caroline Lucas?! Let’s show them up for what they are!

I would call this detachment from reality, rather than fascism. A fascist would not need to think flying was like stabbing to ban it.
Personally, I think the Greens are just becoming shriller in frustration at their total irrelevance to everything that is going on to combat global warming.
