Green day

An interesting slant was put on the affair by senior Green councillor Steve Rackett in this week’s Watford Observer. Steve has called into question the legitimacy of three election results in Watford Borough, saying:

“Clearly campaign workers and party activists can not function as well when they are being subjected to intimidation and harassment. It calls into question the legitimacy of the results and the legitimacy of [the councillors'] mandates.”

In the past two years there have been three close elections, where the Conservatives have won by 2,3, and 47 votes respectively. All were wards in which Oakley had been actively pursuing his campaign of harassment and abuse.

Cllr Rackett insisted that he did not believe that the victorious candidates were part of Oakley’s campaign, but nevertheless felt that they had been the benefactors of his vile actions and called for by-elections
to be held in all three seats.
