The Times has carried a shortened version of a report from Conservative Home about the sort of parliamentary party David Cameron may find himself leading after the next General Election. A majority of one would leave Cameron with 50% of his party new to the Commons, whilst the Tories’ private hopes for 140 new MPs and a majority of around 15 will leave the party with a majority of new boys and girls.
However a survey carried out in seats on a list of the 100 most-winnable constituencies and those already held gives Cameron bad news. If he becomes Prime Minister, David Cameron will head a party dominated by MPs more socially conservative and far less concerned with the environment than he is. Of those Conservatives likely to be elected in a Conservative majority:
The Conservatives continue to use the slogan ‘Vote Blue, Go Green’ in local elections, but it appears that this will prove to be empty rhetoric under a Conservative government. As The Times puts it, ‘greenhorns with no green credentials’. So much for the lovebombing, eh?
