No, you’re not dreaming! England have beaten Germany after a penalty shoot-out to win the World Cup final. Yes, it’s the men, rather than the women. But the pitch is less grassy than astroturf and the world cup is that awarded for the table football world championship. The two-man team of Joe Hamilton and Rob Atha took on the German duo of Tim Ludwig and Dirk Wahl in the final of the Table Soccer World Championships. After extra time, the match stood at 1-1 and so went to penalties.
Hamilton saved a penalty in the last minute of play in order to take the match to spot kicks. His heroics continued as he successfully kept out the Germans to land the trophy.
“The final was one of those games where you just zone out,” explained 22-year-old Hamilton, who earns his living as a kitchen planner. “When we hit the winning penalty to trounce Germany we just stared at each other and didn’t acknowledge anybody else. It was incredible”
