Sad to see the reported end of Freddie Ljungberg’s footballing career today, at least as far as the UK is concerned. As someone who was a great admirer of Ljungberg when he came to Highbury, I’m upset that it’s all petered out like this. Freddie captained Sweden at Euro 2008 and West Ham have admitted that despite past injuries he’s now fully fit, so I am mystified as to why he’s been paid off.
Ok he was past his best, certainly not reproducing the form of the 2003-04 ‘Invincibles’ season and yes, he did slag off the club when he moved across London, but he’s still much loved amongst Gooners.
So one last time (to the tune of ‘Can’t take my eyes off you’):
We love you Freddie,
Because you’ve got red hair,
We love you Freddie,
Because you’re everywhere,
We love you Freddie,
‘Cos you’re Arsenal through and through.
